Finding Your Refuge in God

β€œIn the Lord I take refuge, How then can you say to me: Flee like a bird to your mountain. For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart.”  -Psalm 11: 1-2

David had many reasons in his life for needing to take refuge, like running from King Saul. This particular Psalm, shows a good example for us on how to handle adversity when we are walking through challenging circumstances.

David chose to focus on God rather than his circumstances. Even though he had been advised to flee by his advisors who used very persuasive arguments, David knew it was better to put his trust in the Lord. This is a great example for any of us as we walk through trials and difficult circumstances, as well as a great opportunity to share with our children as they get older and face hardships in life.

When our children are young, it is great to teach them to always trust in the Lord. As they get older and their problems seem bigger and more daunting, it is always good to steer them in the direction of choosing to trust the Lord in difficult places. We can pray they will choose to take refuge in the Lord and that they will not flee into the temptations of this world!
